Developing and Testing a New Questionnaire for Caregivers to Identify Hip Pain in Children with Quadriplegia

This clinical trial focuses on pediatric patients with quadriplegia, a condition often associated with cerebral palsy, where pain identification is challenging due to communication difficulties. The study aims to create and validate a new questionnaire designed for caregivers to assess hip pain in these non-verbal or limited-communication patients. Researchers recognize that pain is common and significantly impacts quality of life in this group, yet current tools are insufficient for accurately detecting hip pain in quadriplegic children. The study involves developing the questionnaire through expert input, including clinicians and parents, using a Delphi method to refine its content. Caregivers of pediatric patients with quadriplegia then complete the questionnaire within two weeks after a clinical visit. During the visit, a physiatrist assesses hip pain using the Revised Face Legs Activity Cry and Consolability r-FLACC Scale to compare with questionnaire results. This approach aims to establish the questionnaires validity and reliability in identifying hip pain. Participants include caregivers who fill out the questionnaire and experts who evaluate its content. The study measures include content validity, internal reliability, and criterion validity by comparing questionnaire responses with the physiatrists pain assessments. This trial will collect data from 100 pediatric patients caregivers and follows them closely during the assessment period to improve hip pain detection tools. The study duration includes the questionnaire completion within two weeks post-visit, supporting better pain management in this vulnerable population.
