Evaluating Hepatic Vein Systolic Filling Fraction Compared to TAPSE for Right Heart Function Assessment in Mechanically Ventilated ICU Patients

This research aims to evaluate the accuracy of the hepatic vein systolic filling fraction SFF as a non-invasive, real-time indicator of right ventricular RV systolic function in critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit ICU who are mechanically ventilated. The study compares this method with the Tricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion TAPSE, a standard echocardiographic measure of RV function. The study is observational and focuses on diagnostic accuracy in an ICU setting. Participants undergo echocardiograms within the first 24 hours of ICU admission using point-of-care ultrasound performed by experienced intensivists. The study protocol involves measuring TAPSE from the apical 4-chamber view and hepatic vein systolic filling fraction using Doppler ultrasound. Electrocardiograms are recorded continuously during the echocardiographic exams, and images are saved for later analysis. The study measures TAPSE and hepatic vein SFF to assess right ventricular function. During the study, demographic and clinical data, synchronized hemodynamic and respiratory data, length of ICU stay, and ICU mortality are recorded up to 28 days after admission. Researchers will analyze the correlation and agreement between the hepatic vein SFF and TAPSE measurements. Participants are monitored closely in the ICU setting, with data collection focusing on right heart function and patient outcomes during their ICU stay.
