Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adult patients older than 18 years who require mechanical ventilation due to life-threatening hypoxia, respiratory rate over 30 breaths per minute, or disturbed conscious level
You will not qualify if you...
- Younger than 18 years old
- Pregnancy
- Surgical incisions that may interfere with ultrasound examination
- Presence of hepato-splenomegaly or ascites
- Neuromuscular diseases such as Myasthenia gravis or kypho-scoliosis
- Diaphragmatic paralysis showing abnormal paradoxical movement during inspiration
