Glucose Control and Metabolic Adaptation in Offspring of Women With Gestational Diabetes Recruited to the DiGest Study

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are examining how a mother's blood sugar control during pregnancy affects her baby's blood sugar regulation after birth. This observational study focuses on mothers diagnosed with gestational diabetes and their newborns to understand metabolic adaptation in early life. The study is sponsored by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and aims to contribute knowledge about neonatal glucose management. Participants are mothers and their babies who have already joined the DiGest Trial and given informed consent. There is no intervention involved in this cohort study; it solely observes and collects data without administering treatments or procedures. During the study, researchers will monitor newborns' glucose levels using sensors for up to the first seven days of life to measure the time their glucose remains within target ranges. The study involves collecting and analyzing this data to assess neonatal sugar control. Participation timelines vary based on enrollment in the parent DiGest Trial, with no additional treatments or interventions required.
