Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adolescents aged 12 to 17 years
- Adolescent BMI at or above the 90th percentile for age and gender
- Primary caregiver overweight (BMI 25.0 to 29.9) or obese (BMI 30 or higher) and willing to participate
- Adolescent primarily living with primary caregiver in a rural community (RUCA Codes 4-10)
- Both adolescent and caregiver each have an Android or Apple (iOS) smartphone with mobile internet
- Adolescent and caregiver are proficient in English
- Supporters are 18 years of age or older
You will not qualify if you...
- Obesity due to medication use for another medical condition (e.g., steroids, antipsychotics) in youth
- Obesity due to chronic conditions (e.g., Down syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, Cushing's syndrome) in youth
- Pregnancy in caregivers or youth
- Mental or emotional disorders such as schizophrenia or psychosis, suicidal or homicidal tendencies
- Serious cognitive impairment preventing completion of questionnaires
- Medical conditions where weight loss is not recommended
- Receiving or planning to receive other obesity treatments like medications or surgery within the next 6 months
