Drug Screening Using Novel IMD in Salivary and Head and Neck Cancers
Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Histologically confirmed head and neck cancer (salivary or adenoid cystic carcinoma, or squamous cell carcinoma) without recurrent, metastatic, or incurable advanced disease
- Any stage of disease allowed
- Age 18 years or older
- Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status 0 or 1
- Measurable primary tumor at least 1 x 1 cm clinically and radiologically
- Medically fit for both percutaneous needle procedure and surgery as assessed by treating surgeon and oncologist
- Laboratory tests within 7 days before device placement with platelet count 50,000/mcL, PT/INR <2, and aPTT <1.5 times upper limit of normal
- Negative pregnancy test within 14 days for females of childbearing potential
- Ability to understand and willingness to sign informed consent
You will not qualify if you...
- Receiving any other investigational agents
- Uncontrolled illnesses such as active infection, symptomatic heart failure, unstable angina, cardiac arrhythmia, or psychiatric/social issues limiting biopsy or surgery safety
- Pregnant women due to risks of radiation and surgery/device placement
- Uncorrectable bleeding or clotting disorders increasing risk with biopsy or surgery
- If on systemic anticoagulation, must be discussed with principal investigator and surgeon
