Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Newly diagnosed with stage I to IV gastrointestinal cancer within the past 72 months
- Have a consistent sleep partner
- Sleep partner or caregiver who wishes to resume sleeping together with the patient
- Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score of 5 or higher
- Willing to change sub-optimal sleep habits
- Age 18 years or older
- Able to speak and listen to English at an 8th grade level for intervention sessions
- Able to read English or Spanish at an 8th grade level for self-reported questionnaires
- More than 4 weeks after surgery before enrollment, with no planned surgery in the next 5 weeks during the study
You will not qualify if you...
- Diagnosis of untreated major depressive disorder, psychosis, or bipolar disorder
- Active suicidality or substance/alcohol dependency in the past year
- Current diagnosis of narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, or untreated sleep apnea
- Extreme chronotype or shift work causing no overlapping sleep schedules between patient and caregiver
- Planned trans-meridian travel during data collection period
- Hearing or visual impairment, dementia, or cognitive dysfunction
- Adults unable to consent, individuals under 18 years old, pregnant women, or prisoners
