Early Detection of At-risk Septic Patients
Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Suspected infection as part of the diagnosis
- Change in quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) score of 2 or more or National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2) score of 5 or more
- Age 18 years or older
You will not qualify if you...
- Recent traumatic injury
- Rockwood frailty score of 6 or higher
- Previous decisions against critical care therapy being in patient's best interest
- Critical care therapies started before hospital arrival, including mechanical ventilation, vasopressors/inotropes, sedation or general anesthesia, blood transfusion, or extracorporeal support
- Advanced directives refusing critical care treatments
- Acute heart failure
- Active gastrointestinal bleeding
- Massive pulmonary embolism
- Declined ICU admission by critical care team
- Hospital treatment within 6 hours before Emergency Department arrival
