What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating an educational intervention designed to improve HPV vaccine uptake and completion among underserved populations, including adolescents and young adults. The study focuses on patients associated with Denver Health clinics and aims to increase knowledge and intentions regarding the HPV vaccine. The study uses a one-group post-test design to assess the intervention's effects on vaccine-related knowledge, intentions, and vaccine dose uptake, as well as clinic-level vaccine rates. The educational intervention includes toolkit materials developed by the National Cancer Institute, such as PowerPoint presentations, flyers, and posters, along with small media like an 8-minute video created using an entertainment-education approach. These materials convey information about HPV, HPV-related cancers, and the importance of completing the HPV vaccine series. The intervention is delivered by trained Community Health Educators to eligible participants, with tracking of vaccine doses received and referrals to vaccine programs or related services. Participants will complete a post-education survey at baseline to measure changes in knowledge and intentions. Researchers will monitor vaccine dose uptake at 3 and 6 months after the intervention and gather sociodemographic data related to vaccine uptake. Clinic-level HPV vaccine rates for adolescents and young adults will also be compared before and after the intervention, with quarterly assessments. The total study duration and participant involvement depend on vaccine dose tracking and referrals, with ongoing monitoring of vaccine completion.
