Researchers are evaluating whether patients with pancreatic cancer who undergo surgery have better outcomes when cared for using a multidisciplinary approach called an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program. This study compares patients treated before and after the program's implementation to understand its effect on recovery and health after surgery. Patients having elective pancreatic surgery are managed either with traditional perioperative care or following a standardized ERAS protocol involving 20 different care elements before, during, and after surgery. The study includes two groups: a control group treated with standard care and an ERAS group receiving the enhanced recovery program, both observed at two high-volume referral centers. Participants are followed to assess their length of hospital stay within 30 days after surgery, along with monitoring 30-day mortality and overall complications. Data are collected prospectively for the ERAS group and retrospectively for the control group. The study aims to measure how these care approaches impact recovery and short-term outcomes after pancreas surgery.

Duration - Hospital stay period after surgery
Participants undergo elective open pancreatic surgery and receive either traditional perioperative care or enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) care.
Hospital stay with daily assessments until discharge
Duration - Up to 30 days after surgery
Participants are monitored for recovery, complications, and outcomes including length of hospital stay, morbidity, and mortality within 30 days after surgery.
Follow-up visits as needed within 30 days post-surgery
