Testing Morus Nigra Mouthwash with Scaling and Root Planing to Treat Gingivitis in Adults

This research aims to evaluate the clinical, microbiological, and biochemical effects of Morus nigra black mulberry mouthwash when used alongside non-surgical periodontal treatment called scaling and root planing SRP in patients with generalized gingivitis. Gingivitis is a reversible inflammation of the gums, and while SRP is the standard treatment, herbal alternatives like Morus nigra are being studied for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. This randomized controlled trial includes 30 patients diagnosed with generalized gingivitis. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups one group will receive scaling and root planing SRP alone, and the other group will receive SRP followed by using Morus nigra mouthwash twice daily for 14 days. The mouthwash contains Morus nigra extract and is used as an additional treatment to assess its effects beyond standard care. The study will monitor outcomes over 3 months, with assessments at baseline, 1 month, and 3 months. During the study, participants will undergo clinical evaluations including the Gingival Index and Plaque Index to measure gum health and plaque levels. Researchers will also analyze cytokine levels TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, IL-10 in the gingival crevicular fluid and measure bacterial load beneath the gums using advanced laboratory tests. These assessments will occur at three time points to track changes. The total participation duration is 3 months with regular follow-ups to monitor treatment effects and safety.
