Researchers are conducting a prospective observational study focusing on patients with rectal cancer who are receiving multimodal treatment. The main goal is to track changes in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the blood during the treatment process. This study compares CTC levels in patients who receive neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy with those who do not. The study involves collecting peripheral blood samples from each participant at five specified times: before starting neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, during the third week of chemoradiotherapy, before surgery, one week after surgery, and one month after surgery. These samples will be analyzed to measure the presence and amount of circulating tumor cells. Participants will undergo blood draws at these scheduled times to monitor CTC levels. The researchers aim to understand how CTC levels change throughout the treatment course. The total duration of participation depends on the timing of treatment and surgery, with careful monitoring at each time point to assess the primary outcome measure, which is the level of circulating tumor cells in peripheral blood.
