Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Adults with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels ranging from the upper limit of normal to three times that limit
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Liver or kidney function abnormality defined as serum aminotransferase activity more than three times the upper limit and serum creatinine over 1.2 mg/dL
  • Diagnosed diabetes or fasting glucose level above 126 mg/dL
  • History of viral hepatitis or cancer
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • History of serious heart disease such as angina or heart attack
  • History of stomach removal surgery
  • History of taking psychiatric medication
  • Use of oriental medicine or herbs within the past 4 weeks
