Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Chronic hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis or CKD 5 treated conservatively
- Age between 18 and 85 years
- Indication for treatment with erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESA)
You will not qualify if you...
- Known allergy to acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)
- Known contraindication to ASA, such as recent bleeding
- Current treatment with ASA without a medical indication
- Raised reticulocyte count
- Current anticoagulant therapy like warfarin or ADP receptor inhibitors except short-term dialysis-related
- Short expected life expectancy
- Inability to provide informed consent
- Expected non-compliance
- Active cancer except non-melanoma skin cancer
- Iron deficiency (reticulocyte hemoglobin <1.8 fmol) unless treated
- Change in ESA dose greater than 33.3% within last 2 months
- Women under 50 years old or menstruating (fertile women)
- Stable Aranesp dose less than 20 micrograms per week
