Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Ability to provide informed consent
- Body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 kg/m²
- Insulin resistance defined by fasting plasma insulin over 62 pmol/L and/or prediabetes defined by fasting plasma glucose between 5.3 and 7.0 mmol/L
- Stable weight for at least 3 months before joining the study
- For women, at least 1 year since last menstrual cycle
You will not qualify if you...
- Use of any medication except for those treating metabolic syndrome
- Any medical condition that could affect study results or design
- History of psychiatric disorders, including eating disorders
- Working night shifts or rotating shifts
- Engaging in intensive sports more than 3 hours per week
- Smoking
- Abuse of drugs or alcohol consuming more than 3 units per day
- Contraindications for MRI
- Known intolerance to lactose or gluten
- Known allergy to soy, egg, milk, or peanuts
- Obesity that started in childhood
