What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of vibration and the ShotBlocker device on pain and fear levels in children aged 5 to 10 during intramuscular injections in the emergency department. The study is a prospective, randomized controlled trial designed to compare these two non-pharmacological methods with routine care to better manage pain and fear in children undergoing this common medical procedure. Participants will be divided into three groups one receiving vibration treatment applied 30 seconds before and during the injection, another using the ShotBlocker device placed on the injection site during the procedure, and a control group receiving routine intramuscular injections without additional interventions. The study involves 120 children with 40 in each group, aiming to measure pain intensity and fear levels during the injection process. Childrens pain and fear will be assessed using the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Scale and the Childrens Fear Scale before, during, and after the procedure. Data will be collected through face-to-face interviews with children, parents, and observers. The entire procedure and assessments will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes, and the primary outcome is the pain rating during the procedure. The study is sponsored by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and will continue until November 2026.
