Evaluating the Artificial Intelligence Family Involvement Generative Agent AIFIGA Program to Improve Health in Nursing Home Staff, Residents, and Families

Researchers are studying the Artificial Intelligence Family Involvement Generative Agent AIFIGA program to see how it affects the health of nursing home staff, residents, and their families. The study uses a mixed methods approach to develop and evaluate AIFIGA, aiming to improve communication between families and nursing staff. The programs development is informed by interviews, observations, and prior research, focusing on experiences after COVID-19. The study has two phases over 36 months. Phase I lasts 18 months and involves creating AIFIGA with data from communication dialogues and large language models. Phase II lasts another 18 months and tests the programs effects. Participants are randomly assigned to either use the AIFIGA program for 3 months or receive routine care. The effects are measured at baseline, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. Participants include nursing home residents aged 60 or older, their family members aged 20 or older, and nursing staff aged 20 or older who agree to participate. The study collects data on resident health using scales like the Geriatric Depression Scale, Activity of Daily Living, social support, and various depression and general health questionnaires. These assessments occur at several points during the study to track changes over time. The total study duration and follow-up extend through these measurement points to evaluate long-term effects.
