What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the effects of combining water aerobics with Metacognitive Training MCT for people diagnosed with psychosis. The study aims to compare this combined approach to each intervention alone, focusing on improvements in clinical, cognitive, metacognitive, psychosocial aspects, motor coordination, and physical health. It also investigates changes in SP1 and SP4 biomarker levels related to the treatments received. The study is designed to see if combining these interventions enhances benefits in symptoms, cognition, and social functioning. Participants are divided into three groups one receiving water aerobics, another receiving MCT, and a third group receiving both interventions. Water aerobics involves a weekly one-hour session led by a specialized trainer focusing on motor coordination, strength, and cardiovascular fitness for three months. MCT consists of weekly one-hour sessions with a psychologist targeting common cognitive biases in psychosis, covering topics like attributional style, jumping to conclusions, theory of mind, emotion recognition, memory, and empathy. Those in the combined group attend both types of sessions weekly for three months. During the study, participants will be assessed at the start and after three months using various clinical and cognitive tests, questionnaires, and physical health measurements. These include scales for cognitive insight, cognitive biases, stress, psychosis symptoms, depression, self-esteem, personal attributions, social cognition, functioning, disability, stigma, quality of life, awareness of mental disorder, and physical indicators like heart rate, blood pressure, weight, body measurements, glucose, cholesterol, and sleep quality. Researchers will monitor changes in these areas along with biomarker levels to evaluate the interventions effects over the study period.
