What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating how eccentric hamstring contractions affect sports performance and quality of life in young male football players with non-contact grade 1 Anterior Cruciate Ligament ACL injuries. This study focuses on athletes aged 19 to 25 years, currently playing in the UAE, who have a recent diagnosis of this specific ACL injury. The aim is to understand if eccentric hamstring exercises can improve knee stability and overall athletic function compared to usual physiotherapy. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups one group receives conventional physiotherapy exercises targeting strength, flexibility, and balance around the knee, while the other group receives the same physiotherapy plus custom-tailored eccentric hamstring exercises such as Nordic hamstring curls and leg curls. The treatments are non-invasive and focus on strengthening the hamstrings through controlled muscle lengthening during exercise. During the study, participants will be tested on their sports performance using the Sargent vertical jump test at the start and after three months. Quality of life and psychological well-being will also be assessed using the ACL Quality of Life questionnaire at these times. Researchers will monitor pain, swelling, and knee function throughout the trial, which lasts three months. The study includes regular exercise sessions and follow-up to evaluate the impact of the interventions on participants recovery and performance.
