The main aim of this study is to validate and test the clinical effectiveness of the projection-based augmented reality system in cockroach phobia exposure therapy through an RCT that includes three conditions: (i) projection-based augmented reality therapy, (ii) usual treatment (in vivo exposure), (iii) waiting list control. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Be at least 18 years old
- Meet DSM-5 criteria for specific phobia, animal subtype, to cockroaches
- Have had the phobia for at least six months
- Provide signed informed consent
- Score at least 4 on fear and avoidance scales of the diagnostic interview
You will not qualify if you...
- Have another severe mental disorder needing immediate attention
- Have current alcohol or drug dependence, psychosis, or severe organic illness
- Be currently treated in a similar treatment program
- Be able to insert hands in a plastic container with a cockroach during the behavioral test
- Receive other psychological treatment for cockroach phobia during the study
- Start or change pharmacological treatment during the study
