After the 8-week program, participants will be reassessed, and again at a 3-month follow-up to evaluate sustained effects. Regular contact with study members ensures monitoring of adherence and any adverse events during the program.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • English-speaking individuals diagnosed with Parkinson disease
  • Ability to walk safely and independently with or without a cane
  • Medically cleared to participate in an independent walking program
  • Physically present in the USA at the time of assessment
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Diagnosis of any neurological disease other than Parkinson disease (e.g., stroke, dementia, multiple sclerosis), though mild cognitive impairment is allowed
  • Regular use of walking poles for exercise more than 30% of the time in the prior 6 months
  • Weight over 320 pounds or height taller than 6 feet 4 inches
  • Unable to participate in walking for more than 7 consecutive days during the study period
  • Anticipated changes in Parkinson-specific medication during the intervention period
  • Changes in deep brain stimulation parameters during the intervention period

Your Study Journey

Screening

Duration - 2 to 4 weeks

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial.

Training

Duration - Up to 14 days

Independent Walking Program
