Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Males and females ages 40-65 years
  • Body mass index 25 to 40 kg/m2 or body fat percentage 25% or higher in males or 36% or higher in females
  • Able to provide informed consent
  • COVID-19 negative or asymptomatic
  • Willing to abstain from alcohol, marijuana, and CBD products during the 4-day meal period
  • HbA1c between 5.7% and 6.4% or fasting glucose between 100 and 125 mg/dL
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Does not eat or will not eat animal protein sources
  • Allergy to wheat, soy, or common plant-based protein ingredients
  • Body mass index less than 25 kg/m2 or greater than 40 kg/m2
  • Hemoglobin less than 10 g/dL at screening
  • Platelet count less than 150,000/uL at screening
  • History of chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer within 6 months prior to enrollment
  • History of gastrointestinal bypass or reduction surgery
  • Pregnant or lactating individuals
  • History of chronic inflammatory diseases such as Lupus or Crohn's disease
  • Currently receiving androgen or anabolic therapy
  • Currently using prescription blood thinners
  • Currently using corticosteroid medications
  • Unable or unwilling to stop aspirin use for 7 days before Visit 3 and Visit 7
  • Unwilling to avoid protein or amino acid supplements during participation
  • Unwilling to fast overnight
  • Unwilling to avoid alcohol, marijuana, and CBD products during the 4 study days
  • On glucagon-like-peptide-1 receptor agonist medications for less than 1 month or with less than one injection every two weeks
