What this Trial Is About

This research aims to examine how a music therapy protocol affects anxiety, symptom distress, and relaxation in cancer patients undergoing MRI scans. The study also explores whether patient attention to the music during the intervention influences changes in these psychological states. Physiological data such as pulse and respiration rates will be collected, along with information on MRI scanning efficiency to see if the music therapy impacts the scanning process. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a control group receiving standard care or a music therapy group receiving both standard care and music therapy interventions. The music therapy involves two parts: a 15-minute session with live relaxing music by a credentialed therapist to induce relaxation and positive memories, followed by music listening during the MRI scan. Control group participants may request music therapy in later appointments. Throughout the study, participants will rate their psychological states before and after MRI exams, and their physiological responses will be monitored during scanning. After scans, they will complete an experience review. The study measures anxiety, symptom distress, and relaxation from randomization until disease progression or death, with assessments conducted within two days. The entire participation period includes these evaluations and monitoring of psychological and physiological responses.
