Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- DSM-5 diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa
- Age 18 to 30 years
- Female gender
- Right-handed
- Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than or equal to 16.0
- Voluntarily admitted to inpatient eating disorders unit at NYSPI
- Competent to provide informed consent
- English-speaking
- Medically stable
You will not qualify if you...
- High risk of suicide
- Current substance use disorder or other psychiatric condition needing specialized treatment (e.g., psychosis)
- Major medical or neurological problems or medications increasing seizure risk or affecting study results
- Food restrictions impacting more than 30% of food choice task options
- Indwelling ferromagnetic metallic objects, non-removable metal jewelry, medicinal patches, or recent metallic ink tattoos
- History of seizure
- Diagnosis of epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's or other neurodegenerative diseases, meningoencephalitis, intracerebral abscess, or certain cancers
- Prior exposure to TMS
- Pregnancy or currently breastfeeding
- Significant claustrophobia
- Implanted devices or stimulators
- Hearing loss or treatment with ototoxic medications or cochlear implants
