Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Willing to participate and provide written informed consent
- Male or female aged 18 to under 75 years at consent
- Prior liver biopsy within 180 days showing fibrosis stage 1 to 3 and NAS score of 4 or higher with scores of at least 1 in lobular inflammation and ballooning degeneration
- MRI-PDFF confirming 10% or more liver fat content
- Weight change of 5% or less in the 6 weeks before randomization
- Stable dose of certain medications: GLP1 receptor agonists or SGLT2 inhibitors for 3 months, Vitamin E at 400 IU/day or more for 6 months, statins for 3 months
- Females of childbearing potential using effective contraception during and 6 months after treatment
You will not qualify if you...
- Chronic liver diseases other than NASH
- Type 1 diabetes or uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes (HbA1c 9% or higher, fasting glucose 13.9 mmol/l or higher)
- Uncontrolled hypertension (blood pressure 160/100 mm Hg or higher)
- History or presence of cirrhosis
- Active or recent malignancy except certain cured cancers
- Unable or unwilling to have required liver biopsies
- Weight loss surgery within 5 years prior to screening
- Major surgery within 3 months before or planned during study
- Recent bone trauma, fracture, or surgery within 2 months
- Osteoporosis by DXA criteria (T score -2.5 or lower)
- Drug abuse history within 2 years
- Participation in other clinical trials within 3 months
- Abnormal lab values including high liver enzymes, low kidney function, abnormal coagulation, or low platelets
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- History or planned liver transplantation
- Contraindications to MRI
- Any condition that might interfere with study compliance or outcomes
