What this Trial Is About
This research aims to address health inequality and genetic differences in the United Kingdom by studying diseases that cause significant illness and death across diverse patient populations. It focuses on understanding why treatments may fail in different ethnic groups, including White (Caucasian), African-Caribbean (Black), and South Asian (Asian) populations. The study recognizes that most clinical trials lack adequate representation of ethnic minorities, which affects the reliability of drug effectiveness and safety in real-world settings. Participants will be recruited from various NHS sites across England to ensure meaningful ethnic diversity. Up to 200,000 patients will be enrolled, representing the three main ethnic groups equally. The study collects biological samples, medical records, and questionnaire data to analyze treatment failures in 19 disease areas causing major health problems in the UK. Patients are grouped based on whether they display traits related to the diseases under investigation. Throughout the study, researchers will review data on treatment failure differences between ethnic groups, disease incidence, and genetic variants linked to these disparities. Participants will provide samples like saliva or blood and complete quality of life and disease-specific questionnaires. Consent for medical record access is required. The study plans ongoing data reviews over multiple years, aiming to inform better clinical care and reduce health inequalities. Total participation duration varies based on data collection and follow-up schedules.
