This study aims to determine the effects of aerobic exercise as a primer to add-on virtual reality (VR)-based rehabilitation on balance, postural control and neuroplasticity (ability of brain to adapt in structure and function) in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). This study will utilize two groups - one group will receive the exercise and VR, while the other group will receive stretching exercise and VR over eight weeks. The study team will administer outcomes at baseline, post-intervention (8 weeks) and follow-up (6 weeks after post-assessment).

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease between ages 18 and 85, at Hoehn and Yahr stages 2 to 3
  • Mini Mental State Examination score of 23 or higher
  • Mini Balance Evaluations Systems Test (miniBESTest) score of 21.5 or lower
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • History of other neurological diseases like stroke or multiple sclerosis
  • History of severe heart or lung disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, orthostatic hypotension, uncontrolled diabetes, severe osteoporosis, or severe arthritis affecting lower joints
  • History of Parkinson's disease-related surgeries such as deep brain stimulation
  • History of head injury
  • History of seizures or epilepsy
  • Currently pregnant
  • Use of medications that may change brain motor excitability or increase seizure risk
  • Skull abnormalities, fractures, or recurring unexplained headaches
