Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Volunteers 45-75 years of age
- Meet the American College of Rheumatology criteria for knee osteoarthritis for at least 3 months
- Physically able to participate in Baduanjin and stretching programs
- Willing to complete the 12-week study
- Able to participate in MRI scans
- Able to read and understand English well enough to answer assessment questions
You will not qualify if you...
- Regularly practiced Baduanjin, Tai Chi, Yoga, physical therapy, or routine exercise in the past year
- Serious medical conditions limiting participation, such as symptomatic heart or lung disease needing oxygen, uncontrolled metabolic diseases, severe kidney or liver disease
- Received steroid injections or reconstructive surgery on the affected knee in the past 3 months, or hyaluronic acid injections in the past 6 months
- Mini-Mental Status Examination score below 24
- Unable to walk without a cane or assistive device
- Plans to have surgery during the study
- Plans to move away permanently during the study period
