What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the implementation and impact of a financial navigation program delivered as part of standard cancer care. The study aims to understand how different strategies for delivering this program affect its success, and how it influences patient financial hardship, quality of life, and psychological distress. It also explores how these strategies help overcome barriers to providing financial support to cancer patients. The program being studied helps patients prepare for treatment costs, improve their use of health insurance, and access financial resources to reduce cancer-related financial difficulties. The study will observe patients receiving this financial navigation as part of routine care and compare outcomes with historical patients who did not receive this support. Researchers will track implementation strategies quarterly and assess implementation outcomes monthly over an average of four years. Participants will provide patient-reported data and researchers will collect information from medical records and interviews with patients, providers, and health system members involved in the program. The study will measure changes in financial hardship, financial difficulties, quality of life, and psychological distress six months after starting systemic therapy. Perspectives on barriers and strategies to overcome them will be gathered annually. The total study period averages about four years from start to finish.
