Evaluation of Alutard SQ Dog Allergy Vaccine for Adults Aged 18 to 50 with Moderate-to-Severe Dog Allergy

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the effects of the allergen-specific vaccine Alutard SQ Dog in adults aged 18 to 50 who have moderate-to-severe dog allergy. This phase 4, single-center study involves 40 men and women who will serve as their own controls. The study aims to assess how the vaccine impacts allergic symptoms and lung and nasal function after exposure to dog allergens. Participants will begin with baseline assessments including recording allergic symptoms, lung function tests using Peak Expiratory Flow PEF, nasal airflow using Peak Nasal Inspiratory Flow PNIF, and blood tests to measure allergen-specific IgE levels. They will then be exposed to dogs in a controlled environment and undergo the same assessments. Following this, they will start allergen immunotherapy with Alutard SQ Dog, following a 13-week up-titration to a maximum dose given every 6-8 weeks for up to three years, with the main treatment period lasting one year in this study. Throughout the study, participants will be monitored for changes in nasal symptoms, lung and nasal airflow, and laboratory parameters before and after allergen exposure at baseline and after one year of treatment. Symptom severity will be tracked using a Visual Analogue Scale VAS. Blood samples will be taken before and after the treatment period to measure changes in allergen-specific IgE. The total study duration is one year, with assessments occurring at the start and end of this period.
