Researchers are investigating the relationship between ultrasound measurements of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and right atrial pressure (RAP) in children and adolescents up to 18 years old. The study aims to create a mathematical model that can predict RAP in pediatric patients using echocardiographic data. This observational study is conducted at a single center and includes both retrospective and prospective data collection. The study involves analyzing ultrasound measurements of the IVC, including maximum and minimum diameters expressed as z-scores and ratios involving the aorta's systolic diameter. Researchers will use these data along with patient growth measurements to develop a pediatric-specific predictive model of RAP. Additionally, they will test the accuracy of an existing adult RAP estimation model in the pediatric population. Participants will be pediatric patients who have central venous catheters placed as part of their diagnosis at the study center. The study includes collecting ultrasound and clinical data retrospectively and prospectively. The main outcome is the development of a predictive mathematical model of RAP based on echocardiographic parameters. The study focuses on conditions including congenital and acquired heart disease, and participation involves consent from the parent or guardian for minors.
