What this Trial Is About
This research investigates different bone graft materials used in lateral sinus floor elevation to support dental implants in adults with insufficient bone height in the posterior maxilla. The study compares the use of deproteinized bovine bone mineral DBBM alone versus a combination of DBBM with leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin L-PRF to evaluate their effects on bone regeneration and implant site development. The rationale is that L-PRF contains biological mediators that may enhance healing and bone formation, potentially improving outcomes compared to xenograft alone. Participants will undergo lateral sinus lift surgery following local anesthesia. One group will receive DBBM alone placed beneath the elevated sinus membrane and covered with a resorbable collagen membrane over the lateral window. The other group will receive a graft made by mixing L-PRF membranes with DBBM particles, forming an L-PRF block, placed under the sinus membrane, with additional L-PRF membranes covering the lateral window. Blood will be collected and processed to prepare L-PRF membranes immediately before surgery. During the study, participants bone gain and bone formation will be assessed at six months after surgery using vertical bone gain measurements and histomorphometric analysis. Researchers will also monitor postoperative pain, morbidity, and surgical complications shortly after surgery. The overall treatment and follow-up last at least six months, with safety and healing carefully observed to evaluate the effectiveness of the graft materials in supporting implant placement.
