What this Trial Is About
Researchers are investigating whether using dietary supplements for more than one year is linked to differences between biological age and actual age, as well as variations in metabolic health and physical fitness. This observational study focuses on generally healthy adults aged 40 and older who have been long-term users of certain supplements. The study compares data from supplement users to non-users and those using single multivitaminmineral or multiple supplements, using a convenience sample and national health survey data. Participants in this study do not receive any intervention but are observed as part of an observational cohort. Information is collected through biomarker analysis, questionnaires, physical exams, and tests that assess physical function. Supplement users provide data at one time point, and comparison data for other groups come from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey NHANES. During the study visit, participants undergo assessments including blood pressure, heart rate, body measurements, muscle strength, flexibility, balance, quality of life questionnaires, cognition, and social connection surveys. Participants must fast overnight and be able to travel to the test site. The main outcome measured is the difference between biological and chronological age calculated using a validated tool. This single assessment is conducted at baseline with no further follow-up, and the total participation time is one visit.
