What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the Parenting in the Moment (PIM) online program for parents with experiences of forced displacement. This randomized controlled trial aims to assess the impact of the PIM program as an in-home skill-building intervention for parents of school-aged children who have migrated to the USA within the last 10 years. The study also seeks to strengthen evidence for effective parenting programs and improve child safety and wellbeing among forcibly displaced families. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will receive access to the 12-module PIMonline parenting program delivered weekly over 12 to 15 weeks, along with a list of parenting resources; the other group will receive only the resource list and access to the PIM program after the study ends. The program is available in English, Spanish, Arabic, and French. Data collection will occur at baseline, 4 months, and 16 months, including caregiver surveys, recorded family interaction tasks, and child surveys for children aged 8 to 12. Families participate entirely online or virtually, completing surveys and Zoom-recorded conversations about family problem solving and migration experiences. Researchers will measure changes in child safety, child and adult wellbeing, emotion coaching, and problem solving skills over time. Data will be securely managed, and caregiver satisfaction and course completion will be recorded. The study runs until June 2026, with extensive community involvement and follow-up assessments planned throughout.
