What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying colorectal cancer and precancerous tumors in adults hospitalized with blood stream infections caused by anaerobic gut-associated bacteria. The study aims to find out how common cancer and precancerous tumors are in the large intestines and rectum among these patients. This observational study is led by Odense University Hospital and focuses on diagnosing these conditions after infection. Participants will be offered a colon capsule endoscopy using the PillCam Colon 2 device about 4 to 8 weeks after they are discharged from the hospital. This involves swallowing a small camera in a pill form that takes images of the colon to help detect tumors or cancerous growths. The study does not involve any treatment but focuses on screening and diagnosis. During the study, participants will undergo this colon capsule endoscopy examination and researchers will track the presence of colorectal cancer and precancerous tumors within 4 to 8 weeks after hospitalization. Participants must be able to give consent and communicate in Danish. The study monitors safety by excluding those with certain medical conditions or previous surgeries and collects data to better understand cancer prevalence in this patient group.
