Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Non-specific chronic low back pain lasting at least 3 months with pain on at least half of the days in the past 6 months
- Age between 18 and 85 years
- Self-identify as non-Hispanic and as either Black/African American or White/Caucasian
You will not qualify if you...
- Low back pain caused by ankylosing spondylitis, infection, malignancy, compression fracture, or trauma
- Presence of systemic rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, or fibromyalgia
- Any other chronic pain condition considered more severe than the low back pain
- History of significant lower back surgery within the past year
- Uncontrolled hypertension (systolic/diastolic blood pressure over 150/95), cardiovascular or peripheral arterial disease
- Poorly controlled diabetes (HbA1c over 8%)
- Neurological diseases like Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, or epilepsy
- Serious psychiatric disorder requiring hospitalization in the past 12 months or active suicidal ideation
- Reduced cognitive function interfering with understanding study procedures
