Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Patients of any gender who are older than 21 years
  • Permission from the patient's clinical attending physician
  • Previous diagnosis of heart failure with New York Heart Association (NYHA) Class II or III symptoms lasting at least 1 month
  • Left ventricular ejection fraction greater than 50% measured by echocardiography, MRI, CT, x-ray, or nuclear ventriculography within the past 12 months
  • Stable medical therapy for at least 30 days with no major changes in RAAS antagonists, beta-blockers, or calcium channel blockers for hypertension
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Unable to understand the risks, benefits, and alternatives of participation and unable to give informed consent
  • Contraindications to MRI such as implanted metallic devices (e.g., pacemakers, cerebral clips) or metallic projectiles
  • Significant valvular heart abnormalities
  • Pregnant women or women of childbearing potential without negative pregnancy testing
  • History of clinical coronary artery disease or significant epicardial coronary artery stenosis greater than 50% unless successfully revascularized within the past 3 years without residual lesions over 50%
  • History of infiltrative cardiomyopathy or constrictive pericarditis
  • Presence of cor pulmonale
  • Significant lung disease
  • Estimated glomerular filtration rate below 20 ml/min
  • Conditions other than heart failure that limit ability to perform a 6-minute walk or cardiopulmonary exercise test, such as critical peripheral vascular disease or major orthopedic or neurological conditions
  • Diseases likely to significantly affect quality of life or perception of health status within 6 months
  • Significant peripheral vascular disease
