What this Trial Is About

Researchers are investigating how hypertension, a condition affecting multiple body systems including balance control, impacts different aspects of postural balance. This study aims to closely examine the clinical interaction between hypertension and balance using game-based virtual reality exercises. It also explores virtual reality exergaming as a promising and engaging alternative to traditional cardiac rehabilitation programs, which often suffer from low patient compliance. By focusing on the detailed integration of balance with hypertension, the study hopes to highlight hypertension as a risk factor for future balance problems and falls, potentially aiding early identification and prevention of related complications. Participants will be divided into groups to compare different interventions. One group will use Xbox-360 Kinect to play multiple exergames, progressing through levels as they complete initial stages. Another group will perform treadmill training at a moderate intensity based on target heart rate. A control group will not receive any intervention. The study evaluates the intensity, frequency, duration, and dosage of virtual reality exercise training as part of this comparison. Participants will be assessed multiple times over the course of the study using various tools, including the Gait and Balance App, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor biomarker tests, Exercise Enjoyment Questionnaire, Montreal Cognitive Assessment, 3-Minute Walk Test, Social Functioning Questionnaire, SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire, Timed Up and Go test, and Berg Balance Scale. These assessments occur at baseline, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks of intervention. The study monitors changes in balance, cognitive function, physical endurance, social functioning, and quality of life, providing a comprehensive view of the effects of the different exercise programs.
