Explore the Effects of Cortical Priming on Visuomotor Stepping Learning in Persons With Chronic Stroke
Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age between 21 and 90 years
- History of unilateral stroke at least 6 months before enrollment
- Stroke involving the corticospinal tract confirmed by MRI or CT
- Hemiparesis affecting the lower extremity as measured by Fugl-Meyer LE motor test
- No passive range of motion limitations in both hips and knees
- Ankle passive dorsiflexion limited to 10 degrees or less
- Visual acuity correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contacts
- Ability to walk independently with or without assistive devices for 10 meters
- Ability to stand without assistance for more than 30 seconds
- Mini-mental status examination score of 24 or higher
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnant women
- MRI or CT showing damage to basal ganglia, cerebellum, multiple lesions, other brain damage, malignant tumors
- Presence of metal implants, cardiac pacemakers, or history of seizures
- Ongoing orthopedic or neuromuscular disorders restricting exercise training
- Vestibular dysfunction or unstable angina
- Significant cognitive deficits preventing following a 2-step command or severe aphasia
