What this Trial Is About
The acute phase of stroke is characterized by an enhancement of neural plasticity which supports rapid motor recovery. It is unclear whether acute stroke patients can acquire new motor skills with their affected upper limb. The aims of this research program are: 1. To test the capacity of acute stroke patients (\< 21 days) to learn and retain a complex unimanual motor skill. 2. To explore whether acute stroke to different brain regions (quantified with brain MRI) induces specific deficits in motor skill learning. 3. To compare acute stroke patients with healthy individuals and with chronic stroke patients.

Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Acute stroke within 21 days
- Age between 18 and 90 years
- Stroke lesion visible on brain imaging
- For transient global amnesia patients: clinical diagnosis per Hodge & Warlow criteria, ability to perform 3 sessions on rehabilitation robot, age 8 to 90 years
- Healthy individuals aged 18 to 90 years
- Chronic stroke patients with stroke more than 6 months ago, aged 18 to 90 years, with stroke lesion on brain imaging
You will not qualify if you...
- Contraindications to MRI such as non-MR-compatible pacemaker or implanted devices, pregnancy, or claustrophobia
- Difficulty understanding or following commands
- Drug or alcohol abuse
- Severe aphasia or cognitive deficits interfering with the study
- Inability to voluntarily move the affected arm (complete paralysis)
- Multiple strokes, dementia, or psychiatric conditions
