Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- ESRD patients actively undergoing peritoneal dialysis with a reliably functioning PD catheter
- Systolic blood pressure greater than 130 mmHg
- Serum sodium greater than 135 mmol/L
- Daily urine output less than 400 ml
- Stable PD prescription for at least 2 months without use of 4.25% glucose PD solution
- PD vintage of at least 6 months
- Euvolemic as defined by the patient at dry weight and free of signs or symptoms of volume overload per referring nephrologist
You will not qualify if you...
- Poorly controlled diabetes with hemoglobin A1C greater than 9%
- One or more episodes of peritonitis in the previous 6 months or active infection of the peritoneal dialysis catheter
- Anemia with hemoglobin less than 8 g/dL
- Inability to give written informed consent or follow study protocol
- Urinary incontinence
- Body weight less than 60 kg
- Gastrointestinal disease causing diarrhea or expected sodium losses in stool
- Use of amiodarone in the last 6 months (which interferes with tissue iodine ascertainment)
