What this Trial Is About
This research aims to better understand people in Spain who come to emergency departments after attempting suicide. It focuses on identifying personal, social, biological, and clinical factors linked to a higher risk of trying again and evaluates different follow-up strategies to reduce this risk. The study extends monitoring to 3,600 participants, including 1,800 from a previous study and 1,800 new recruits, across several hospitals. Participants include adolescents and adults who have attempted suicide and are enrolled in the SURVIVE cohort. They will be followed for up to three years. Some may be invited to provide blood samples, complete online questionnaires, or use smartphone-based tools to track mood and suicidal thoughts. Separate clinical trials nested within this research will assess various follow-up programs compared to usual treatment. During the study, researchers will collect data through interviews, questionnaires, and biological samples to measure outcomes such as suicidal behavior, depression, anxiety, and quality of life. The main outcome uses the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale over one year. Secondary measures include mental health questionnaires and assessments of life events, trauma, substance use, and social support. Safety and follow-up will be maintained throughout the study period.
