Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adult patients older than 18 years
- EEG-confirmed non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) using Salzburg criteria
- Have not responded to benzodiazepines and at least one second-line intravenous anti-seizure medication (Levetiracetam, Fosfenytoin, or Valproate)
- Treatment followed Danish national neurological guidelines
You will not qualify if you...
- Epileptic status caused by acute neuroinfections such as bacterial meningitis or viral encephalitis
- Acute traumatic or spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage
- Suspected cerebral anoxia, hypoxia, hypoglycemia, or epileptic encephalopathy
- Contraindications to anti-seizure medications per protocol
- Contraindications to anesthesia in intensive care
- Focal motor status epilepticus without significant consciousness impairment (Glasgow Coma Scale above 13)
- Known epileptic encephalopathy
- Clinical need for immediate intubation
