Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Patients with cardiac arrest older than 18 years in the emergency department.
You will not qualify if you...
- Patients with known upper gastrointestinal malignancy or strictures, previous upper gastrointestinal surgery or radiation, or known esophageal varices.
- Patients with a do-not-resuscitate order, who are pregnant, or who have traumatic cardiac arrest.
- No trained TEE provider available.
- Return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) at arrival.
- Decision by the team to stop resuscitation upon arrival at the emergency department due to prognosis.
- Other life-saving interventions prioritized over TEE by the resuscitation team.
