What this Trial Is About
FALCO is a parallel pragmatic randomized control trial addressing long-term effects of music therapy (MT) on substance use disorder (SUD). 600 participants will be recruited from multiple European countries (see Locations). They will be randomized into one of the following intervention arms: Active Music Group (AMG), Music Listening Group (MLG) or Treatment as Usual (TAU) as offered locally.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Patients seeking or receiving treatment for substance use disorder based on ICD-10 criteria
- 18 years old or older
- Not currently undergoing detoxification (either completed or not planned at recruitment)
- Use of any type of substance, including polysubstance and alcohol use
You will not qualify if you...
- Dependence only on nicotine
- Psychotic episode within the last 3 months
- Insufficient language skills to participate without a translator
- Hearing impairment that seriously affects hearing music at moderate volume (unless helped by hearing aid)
- Diagnosis of dementia
- Currently receiving or received regular music therapy during the past year
