Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Linoleic acid intake less than 75% of the adequate intake
- Probable sarcopenia
- Age between 65 and 80 years
You will not qualify if you...
- Gastrointestinal diseases or surgery that affect nutrient absorption or tolerance of study foods
- Diagnosis of hyperthyroidism
- Food allergies or intolerances
- Dietary restrictions preventing consumption of study foods or ingredients
- Unstable heart failure or recent heart disease events within 3 months
- Severe kidney failure, liver diseases, or severe/uncontrolled pulmonary diseases
- Severe or uncontrolled rheumatologic or orthopedic diseases
- Current or recent cancer treatment except non-melanoma skin cancer
- Neuromuscular or neurological conditions affecting movement or muscle function tests
- Use of mobility assistance devices preventing muscle function tests
- Use of weight loss supplements or programs
- Use of high linoleic acid supplements within 4 weeks prior to enrollment
- Pregnancy or lactation
- Alcohol or drug abuse
- Allergy or intolerance to lidocaine or similar medication
- Use of blood thinner medications
- Terminal illness
- Any condition causing muscle loss, weakness, or impaired leg mobility beyond normal aging
