The main objective of the study is to assess the "FreeDom" innovative strategy (FreeO2 at Domicile) to reduce hospitalization duration in patients with COPD exacerbation. The main hypothesis of this study is that the FreeDom strategy will reduce the number of hospitalization day by 50 percent at day 30.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Hospitalized for COPD exacerbation less than 48 hours
- Known or suspected COPD
- Age 40 years or older
- Ex-smoker with a history of 10 pack-years or more
- Recent onset dyspnea less than 15 days
- Need for oxygen therapy less than 6 L/min to keep SpO2 above 90% (oxygen flow higher than home if oxygen dependent)
You will not qualify if you...
- Refusal to consent to participate
- Imminent intubation needed
- Sleep apnea
- Use of non-invasive ventilation at home
- FreeO2 system not available at randomization
- Not autonomous and living alone at home
- Lives more than 50 km away from the hospital
- Already included in the study within last 3 months
