AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to understand the role of the endothelial glycocalyx eGC in the impaired microvascular function seen in people with chronic kidney disease CKD. The study compares patients with CKD, patients with hypertension but no kidney damage, and healthy volunteers to explore how eGC and related markers affect blood vessel function. It also seeks to enhance scientific collaboration and resources at MEFOS to improve research quality. Participants include three groups those with CKD caused by hypertension at stages 1-2 and 3-5 non-diabetic, non-smokers, patients with hypertension but normal kidney function non-diabetic, non-smokers, and healthy volunteers serving as controls. The study measures microvascular reactivity using a laser Doppler flow meter and assesses eGC thickness with a device called Glycocheck. Blood samples are collected to analyze soluble markers of eGC, oxidative stress, inflammation, and antioxidant capacity. Participants will have one visit where these measurements and blood samples are taken. Researchers will evaluate microvascular reactivity and eGC thickness at baseline, along with various blood markers related to oxidative stress and immune cell frequency. The study results aim to provide insight into endothelial dysfunction in CKD and identify new biomarkers. The total participation time involves this single laboratory visit for assessment and sample collection.
