Effect of Breastfeeding Education for Grandparents on Mothers Exclusive Breastfeeding, Confidence, and Motivation

This research aims to evaluate how breastfeeding education provided to grandparents during the prenatal period influences mothers motivation, confidence, and continuation of exclusive breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is essential for newborn nutrition, yet rates of breastfeeding within the first hour and exclusive breastfeeding for six months are below global recommendations. Grandparents, especially grandmothers, often play a key role in supporting or influencing breastfeeding practices, but their impact can be both positive and negative. The study compares three groups one receiving structured breastfeeding training for grandmothers, another receiving similar training for fathers, and a control group with routine institutional care without training. Education focuses on improving support for breastfeeding initiation and maintenance. The interventions occur during pregnancy, aiming to affect breastfeeding behavior postpartum. Participants will be monitored from late pregnancy through postpartum days 7, 20, and 40. Researchers will assess breastfeeding self-efficacy, motivation, and breastfeeding status using validated scales. The study will collect data on mothers confidence and breastfeeding continuation, with all participants followed until 40 days after birth to evaluate outcomes and support breastfeeding promotion efforts.
