The goal of this observational study is to learn about the pathophysiology characterization and evolutionary patterns of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in South China older adults. The primary purposes are as follows: 1. The prevalence and characteristics of AD in South China's aging population 2. Identify novel biomarkers and neuroimaging techniques for early detection and intervention of AD 3. Supporting and fertilizing novel approaches and techniques for early diagnosis and intervention of AD Participants will undergo cognitive assessments, blood sample collection, and genetic testing. Some will undergo CSF collection, stool sample collection, MRI scanning, Aβ PET scanning, and tau PET scanning.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Men and women aged 55 to 90 years (including 55 and 90 years old); age not limited for familial Alzheimer's disease cases
  • Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) score less than 6 points
  • Have a caregiver able to provide at least 10 hours of contact per week and accompany to testing
  • Sufficient vision and hearing for neuropsychological testing, including normal corrected vision and hearing
  • In good health and expected to be free of disease interference during the study
  • Not pregnant, lactating, or of reproductive potential (women must be at least two years post-menopause or have undergone sterilization surgery)
  • Willing and able to participate in longitudinal imaging studies
  • Modified Hachinski Ischemic Score less than or equal to 4
  • Completed at least grade 6 education or have equivalent work experience
  • Fluent in Mandarin
  • Willing to undergo multiple 3T MRI scans and at least two PET scans
  • Agree to blood collection for genomic analysis and biomarker detection, and biological sample storage
  • Agree to share genomic data and biomarker samples
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • MRI brain scan showing infection, infarction, focal lesions, or multiple lacunes in key memory areas
  • Unable to undergo MRI due to pacemaker, metal fragments, or other contraindications
  • Severe depression or bipolar disorder within the past year
  • Psychotic features, agitation, or behavioral problems affecting study compliance in the past 3 months
  • Current treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder or attention deficit disorder
  • History of schizophrenia
  • Alcohol or drug abuse or dependence in the past 2 years
  • Major systemic disease or unstable physical condition interfering with longitudinal research
  • Clinically significant vitamin B12 or thyroid function abnormalities
  • Currently using certain psychoactive medications or anticoagulants (except for lumbar puncture)
  • Use of prohibited drugs
  • Participation in other neuropsychiatric clinical studies
